Moving from github to gitlab
#1227
Mainly due to the microsoft takeover and github not liking the email I use for all other stuff these days I decided to move to gitlab.

I don't do much in terms of programming these days, my intrests mainly lie in securuty and obscure hardware.

I moved to git.animeisgay.com until kotori killed the git service on the server so i'm now on the main gitlab instance as my VPS is shit and I don't know how long i'm gonna be bothered to pay for it.

Importing projects is /comfy/ and takes just a few steps so having to do the move twice was not that bad.

I'm overall happy, I don't use git much, I mainly use it so I have reference if someone wants a copy of some crappy program I made in my early teens.

I've been considering it but so far I haven't really run into a strong reason to make it happen yet.
I currently use the webhook system from Github to automatically update the site's changelog and update it when I create a release tag, and I'm not sure how compatible Gitlab's would be and of course there's also the laziness factor.

gitea has decent webhook stuff. I still use github for my more professional(not really cause I suck) things because I want a future employer to be able to see something recognizable so then its all about the projects rather than the interface. Still dislike github though

Disable ipv6 and become one with the ipv4 singularity

gitea and gogs try too hard to look like github but zoomed in 150%, i hate it so much
but yeah i think they also try to leave their webhook system compatible

My gitea instance is sorta active even though it's really outdated. IMO Gitea's UI/UX is much better than GitLab's. If you do want to use GitLab, I wouldn't use gitlab.com, they don't exactly have a great track record.

yeah gitlab isn't exactly intuitive either, i have my qualms with either and if i did move it'd most preferably be to something self hosted anyway

one of these days i'll write a web interface for git that doesn't require eight million fucking things to run but that probably won't be high priority until i get banned from github for saying nigger
