Instruments / Gear Thread

Welcome to the discussion of music related equipment and instruments!

I know you chucklefucks have some gear, so post it! I'll start.

Schecter C-1 Hellraiser
//i.fii.moe/D94Rs_4kKCO__J7ZrHKEGK9b2W_gYesi

This guitar was my first "real" guitar. Before that, which was like my first year of playing, was done on this utterly awful Ibanez GIO with a cutaway on both sides. It played and sounded like ass, so when I saw one of these available in the area, barely played for 400$ off its value new, I didn't hesitate to buy it. It was definitely worth it, it plays amazingly, it sounds good, since I don't mind EMGs, and is my child.

Squier Classic Vibe 3 Tone Sunburst Telecaster
//i.fii.moe/JjUQICsGxJRl9ENFzC9BnL93fTOG_MZM

I bought this guitar this year, since I was joining my school's jazz band, and needed something to fit the vibe and, y'know, not be the biggest deal if it was stolen. It looks pretty nice and gets those plinky clean tones, it even plays pretty nicely. Definitely brings some variety since it feels a lot different than my Schecter.

Kustom 200 and a Marshall 1x12 Cabinet
//i.fii.moe/WOGy1coTEAvXsmgWHvaAFb8kDabC-Cb0

Alright, so these two are among the things I found in a closet downstairs a while back, and decided to bring it up to experiment. What I didn't know was that the Kustom is probably a bass amp and pretty beat up, so it has some peculiar qualities. The reverb is always on. Even if you turn it all the way down, the sound is still fucking drenched in it. It sounds like I'm playing underwater or something. It also picks up radio stations a lot, and so you'll sometimes hear the faint voice of some broadcaster while it's on. I don't really ever use it, but it's definitely worth showing.

NOT PICTURED: Audiobox 22VSL

Yep, since for noise reasons I can't really get an actual amp, I've been just using this interface to get my tones. It's nice for recording and it does an okay job, but it has some latency issues, and sometimes decides to just obliterate the signal. Oh well. For amp sims I've been using BIAS Amp, and it's leagues ahead of other amp sims I've tried, though maybe only because I'm kinda clueless with this stuff.

And that concludes my gear ramblings, hopefully this will inspire some fellow music nerds to follow suit.

here's my shit

'97 Affinity Squier Strat
//i.fii.moe/d6G54gvf8LQh7zVuwpMYdGCvuIahpUQO
My aunt got me this a few years ago from a garage sale, isn't exactly the greatest but it's good enough for me right now, although I've never really used anything better so I dunno if I can really say how good or bad it is. Kind of a pain to replace strings on though because the fifth tuning peg/pin thing doesn't stay in

Digitech Synth Wah and Dod Death Metal Distortion FX86B
//i.fii.moe/_FcTgn-tuXihBq3bNOTkjwElsY3MQDfp
The distortion pedal sounds okay enough depending on what pickup I'm using and how I have the EQ set, but I really wish it had a gain control on it. Don't use it very often, since my DAW has better solutions for distortion.
The Synth Wah's really the only one I use regularly, since I can't really find a way to get a similar sound on my computer as reliably as this thing does. It has a few different modes, a wah that's triggered by the volume of the input that can go down or up, a synth-type sound that has a low-pass filter than can either go down or up, and some vowel-y type filters, which is what Daft Punk used in most of if not all of Human After All. Here's a demo: https://instaud.io/3bU8

M-Audio MobilePre USB Audio Interface
//i.fii.moe/6jZB1o0DLNcl3ct5d2wkuQYB_ukff3d7

An audio interface I got for like $3 at a thrift store, considering how much I paid for it I'm not gonna complain about the outdated drivers. Honestly has everything I need, two 1/4 inch inputs, two 1/4 inch outputs, two XLR inputs, and a 3.5mm stereo line input.

Samson Carbon49 MIDI Keyboard and Akai MIDImix MIDI Mixer (Exactly what it says on the tin)
//i.fii.moe/7XiWmpOwbR30qJIMeoiNFWFP0xxuZfk7

Keyboard's alright for $100, kind of wish it had aftertouch instead of just velocity though. The mixer that's sitting on it is more useful to me as something to use to control synth controls rather than as an actual mixer, though.

Crate MX20RC Guitar Amp and Shure SM57 Microphone
//i.fii.moe/nCqAcByucAbGAroX76pyYbdFRIAiQ-Lh

The amp's your usual bedroom guitar amp, not sure if I really need to say too much more. It has a built in (unadjustable) chorus, and spring reverb that doesn't sound too great. Also has distortion that sound like garbage. It sounds fine without those on, though. The SM57's a pretty good-sounding mic, better than the Blue Snowball I have at my desk anyway.

Eastar Melodica
//i.fii.moe/2EVnr0n043vBccl7B1GAo1jt4wa_qpKV

It's a melodica, I don't really have much else to say about it other than I haven't used it very much yet.

Disable ipv6 and become one with the ipv4 singularity

While I can't exactly speak on the quality of a used Squier strat, the ones I've played are actually not too bad for the price. Even the Squier Bullets are pretty decent these days, which are even more affordable than the Affinity series IIRC.

Their biggest issue is usually tuning stability, as I'm sure you can attest to.

Indeed I can.

Last weekend I finally gave my dad's Ibanez EX360 the attention it deserved after being locked in a smelly ass case for years.

The floating bridge was diving backwards a fair bit thanks to one of the strings somehow losing a shit load of tension, another string was held in place only by the locking nut, and it was in dire need of a cleaning. It took a solid hour or two to do since it's the first time I've dealt with a trem system, but I got the hang of it eventually. Can't wait to fuck around with whammy tricks when my wrist is better.
