ancient multitool that i got for five bucks a million years ago, i've fixed things with this piece of shit you would not believe and it built the entire fence in my pasture. the knife is broken and stuck shut but i always have a folding knife on me anyways however listing a knife here would be pretty stupid

a very small but very effective file for sharpening any blade, especially scythes and sickles and axes which can't be sharpened with the knife sharpener

the former two i have on me at all times since they've come in handy at the most insane times and i feel naked without them at this point, plus it's nice to sharpen my tools when i'm bored away from home. the last one i only take with me if i'm wearing pants with cargo pockets since it'll break holes in your back pockets but i can't believe how well it works for the size

But something unexpected because nowadays we have a flashlight in our phones, a small palm sized flashlight has always been on me for the past few years. I especially used it much while in Japan during nightwalks in the mountains and forests. An actual flashlight lights up way more and way further than the one on a phone, so i could actually see where i was walking and see the wildlife

you're definitely right about that, having an actual bona fide certified flashlight beats using a phone's flash every time, and especially the times where i've got nothing but a lighter and i need to see it makes me pretty damn sore. i've grown very partial towards led headlamps over handheld flashlights since you've got both hands free to get work done in the dark, which was especially helpful when i was repairing the plumbing in a basement with no working lights and finishing outdoor construction that's gotta get done whether the sun's up or down. i keep my nicest one in my car hanging on the rearview so i've got it anywhere i go and it's damn handy

one thing i have noticed with them though is that they chew through batteries real quick, and nowadays that ain't a cheap date to keep constantly cycling them. one of these days soon i gotta get ahold of one that can be recharged and keep it at the workshop where there's mains electricity, and i oughta look into those rechargable lipo4 batteries they make in standard aa/aaa form factor for my other ones
