Surprisingly enough they were set up as a true third party rather than an under-the-wing second party. I'm hoping Nintendo rehires some of the old staff since the games just have that particular Charm™ to it and it could go lost otherwise, but despite using the word "hoping" I'm not that hopeful. The Mario & Luigi games were some of my favourite growing up and I was anticipating the next instalment on Switch but I guess that'll have to wait a while now!
But in the end it's not surprising this happened considering their absolutely fatal mistake of skipping out on a Partners in Time remake, but we can't all be winners.
