tried to stick closely to hinoue's design this time. not sure if that's entirely a good thing though in terms of learning
decided to render it out a bit more fully w/ background and all, i think coloring is one of my better areas, probably came over from ui design, although i'm not entirely sure how good her skin's shading looks, as all my monitors are dogshit and it's really hard for me to tell what i'm doing on them here
also painttool sai is a piece of shit, very very hard to adjust things later down the road in it, ended up having to just export as PNG to be able to skew it slightly (still not sure if she's quite correct), will be trying out krita or smth (would need to find out how to get this brush back i made a while ago tho)
took about 2 days, very jealous of those who can just scribble an amazing active pose out of their hand in an hour, this bust was already hard af to get to the wonky stage its in now lol
slight fix, forgot to turn on the layer for transparent hair over the eyes

yea you're good at this shit you'll be better than me soon if you aren't already lmao

I think copying other artists is pretty standard when learning how to draw, so I wouldn't say that sticking closer to a design is worse in regards to drawing.

I've seen many people who draw well use Krita, so I wouldn't say it's a bad option. I use Medibang but I have problems with it sometimes so yeah I'd try with Krita first.

It'll take less time to draw the more you get used to it, think of it like coding. When starting you have to take your time to check the documentation and whatever people say on Stack Overflow to end up with a real messy and inefficient solution which is mostly composed by copying code from different sources and tweaking some things here and there.

first off osk that art piece is amazing, it usually takes me like a week to actually make something and you doing it in two days a feat in of itself. You really are showing the extent of your artistic creativity that is evident from your ui designs. Some more practice and you will be insane.

For my latest art piece it is Sora from kingdom hearts off the shores of destiny islands. I put a lot more effort into coloring (especially figuring out eyes) and trying to provide depth to clothes, the neckline, and the body shape. I'm starting to find my style more.

bit of a simpler work, more just to play with krita, so lineart is a bit thicker, less dress rendered, less detail (eyes, hair, etc.)
as expected, krita's workflow is miles, miles better and nicer than SAI, this took about 5 hours whereas last work was 2 days... of course that work was also a lot more complex so take it with some salt
liking this shading quite a bit more, far less pillow-y I suppose, even if it's not as noticable since the work is simpler i suppose, tried to specifically keep a point of lighting in mind
this time i didn't copy hinoue as much, but i suppose hinoue's style is still in my head.. still quite a bit different from last work though
my main problem with it right now is her gaze, even more so than last time she is just kinda empty-headed staring off into space, i really need to get good at faces... and in general, i need to start drawing things other than busts gazing slightly to the left of the viewer lol

why is she looking at me like that i'm scared

I mean the best way to get good at faces is drawing busts since you'll be focusing more at that part of the body and this is literally your third drawing here so don't worry too much about that, you're doing fine.

That being said, it's true that if all your drawings were like that it'd look a bit boring so yeah, i'd draw some full body stuff here and there, but i'd recommend to do mostly bust if you wanna get good at that.
