Whenever I go to a friend of mine's farm, his sheep are pretty uncomfortable around me. They'll eventually realize I mean them no harm, but if I'm out alone with them (or if his dogs aren't there) then the sheep will be scared and back off a bit. They can tell I'm the hireling and not the shepherd, I guess. When he's around he can shout "SHEEP" and all the sheep will follow him
