Indiana Harbor - When taking any train East out of Chicago (besides the Cardinal) you go through Indiana Harbor. There’s a small town with a couple houses and shops, but what’s mainly taking up all the space is industry by the water. You may be familiar with Gary Indiana, and this town has pretty much the same fate. Massive industry by the water that ended up being abruptly ended when it was no longer cheaper to continue working there. What’s left is a bunch of abandoned and rotting factories that no one has the time to clean and maintain. The industries that are still there build on top of what’s left and then they also end up moving. Then the next does so, so on and so on, until you get a mess of pipes and buildings, abandoned infrastructure and rotting wires. It’s so… beautiful. I can’t imagine such a crazy and messy place being real, and the train goes pretty much right through it all. It’s really cool, even if it may be a slowly decaying and shrinking town. Whiting and Gary neighbor this town, but they are more bigger so I’ll review them when I look at them more deeply, but they’re similar. Even if it may be one of the worst places to live, for Indiana Harbor I give a 6/10.
