Dogs who know when their owners are coming home
#17615
I will tell my story briefly and specify some things in case anyone is incredulous.
I've had two dogs, one named Jake and the other Sparkles. Our second dog, Sparkles, is a mutt that's clearly part pit, part dachshund, and a third part we don't know what. A few years ago, I began to observe that around half an hour before my mother returned from her daily business, she would run and wait at the window. This is not anywhere near when my mother actually returned, but probably more around the time she left wherever she was before.

She did not have a fixed schedule, and often returned many hours before or after we expected without prior notice. None of us knew the time she would return without asking her beforehand, so there is no possibility we were influencing the behaviour of Sparkles without noticing. Consistently, Sparkles would wait and this actually became my preferred method for judging when my mom would return home, rather than bothering sending text messages to her.

Later, I decided to ask my brothers if they had noticed this phenomenon and two of them said yes, with one disagreeing and saying no. Sadly in 2021 (around the time I joined this forum) my first dog, Jake, died. Sparkles's behaviour changed significantly after that event. Since then, she has never waited for my mother to return home. Only after this did I learn about Jaytee the dog, a famous dog who was also recorded with a similar behaviour on many hours of film by the parapsychological researcher Rupert Sheldrake.

Has anyone else had a pet like this, or heard stories of a pet with a similar propensity to act in such a way? Do you think that my story has any merit, or was I seeing shapes in the clouds? I want to hear everyone's honest opinion
