Come play Splatoon with us!

Setup

You will need:
⟹ A copy of the game (ideally version 288, none other tested, dumped by yourself obviously!)
⟹ If using Cemu, these files ⸻ copy (merge in) the contents of mlc01 into your MLC folder, and copy cafeLibs into your Cemu folder. You can open both from the menu.
⇒ Linux user note: this torrent includes a folder with an uppercase B in the name, while Cemu expects (and autogenerates) one with a lowercase b. Since your filesystem is case sensitive, they will not merge properly and you will not be playing Splatoon today. Find the 0005001B and 0005001b folders in sys/title and merge them into a lowercase version manually.
⟹ If emulating, a controller that can do motion (Nintendo or PlayStation). Remember to Input settings 🢒 Controller 🢒 Settings 🢒 🗹 Use motion!
⇒ If you don't have a controller that can do motion, you can emulate the charm of Wii U-era Wiimote-strapped-to-procon-jank by using a smartphone to source motion data. Read the appendix for more information. This also works for using the phone as a controller entirely, if you have no controllers at all, but that is suboptimal.
⇒ If you live in a helium atmosphere that bricks all MEMS accelerometers and have nothing motion-capable whatsoever, you can get through the tutorial by holding right click while dragging on the window to simulate motion, then once you're in Inkopolis you can select on your gamepad Options 🢒 Motion Controls 🢒 OFF. You can then use dual-analog to move, which is unpleasant but works.
⟹ An account at Fiitendo. This is our private server (instance of Pretendo, hosted by nook, maintained by me). Instructions on how to connect are listed on the website, but in short, register, download all necessary files, put them in the correct places, and in Cemu select Custom in Options 🢒 General Settings 🢒 Account 🢒 Network service. Join the Chat to ask any questions that might unexplicably arise in the registration process.
⟹ Optional: a Mii! Entirely useless, but fun. I think you need to regenerate your account.dat afterwards, and due to caching jank this is best done as early as possible anyway.

After setting up, boot Friends, invite everyone you know. We don't have enough people for matchmaking, so Private Battles with Friends is all there is!

Have fun!

Troubleshooting

- If Cemu is upset that "Online play is not set up", you can click on the ⚠ to see what specifically it's angry about.
- 199-9998? You didn't enable online mode - select Custom in Network service, and make sure that after starting the game there's [Online-Pretentious @ fiitendo.nook.zone] in the title bar.
- 118-0510? Try a different internet connection (cellular?). NEX uses weird custom janky P2P, it's relatively easy to upset.
- Make sure that Windows Defender's firewall isn't upset. I know I have seen it pop up while trying to connect. Again, weird custom P2P.

If you want to ask for help, go to Debug 🢒 Logging 🢒 CafeOS modules logging, then check everything beginning with an 'n', then select Debug 🢒 Open logging window. Try to spot anything that looks related, especially mentioning failed requests, CURL, NEX, PRUDP, BOSS, IOSU, and OAuth. Known "probably safe" errors: SEEPROM region, game server not found 1021.

Appendix A. Motion controls

This is a working setup, I tested this 🡁

Based on this article on the Cemu wiki.

You can use a phone with an accelerometer. There are multiple apps to use a phone as a controller with Cemu, I tried DSUController (Android and iOS, unfortunately has ads, I despise smartphones) but the Cemu wiki also lists DSURemote (Android, reviews claim no ads) and MotionSource (they link directly to an .apk lol). All of the above apps use the DSU protocol to send motion and controls data over LAN to your computer.
In Cemu's Input settings, first use the [+] button to add a non-motion controller you have, first choose SDLController as the API and then your controller. If you don't have a controller and want to only use a phone, skip this step. Wiggle your analogs to check if everything works. You can edit your binds here, for example if you don't like S1's Ⓧ to jump (which got changed in later games) or like me want to swap Ⓐ⇆Ⓑ Ⓧ⇆Ⓨ for the PlayStation style ⨯-select ○-cancel. You can also click Settings and enable rumble.
Click [+] again to add your phone. Select DSUController API, type in your phone's IP and its app's port (probably default, both likely available somewhere in the app's settings). It should find a Controller and let you pick it. Sometimes you have to switch to a different API and back to make the IP change stick. Then make sure you have your DSUController selected in the Controller box, click Settings, and check Use motion.
If you are using your phone only, bind keys here now. Cemu should now be using motion data from your phone to control the character. You can now use rubber bands or other object to fasten your phone to your controller. Have fun!

wtf this is awesome

as an aside, consider editing your save with a tool such as https://mirayxs.github.io/SplatHeX/SplatHeX.html (no affiliation) if you want weapons besides splattershot jr, it's kinda infeasible to unlock them organically right now
