Decided to finally fall for the thinkpad meme (thanks /g/ and cammoyoshi)

Ordered a used X230 for £135.99 ($172.51 on 4th June)


What should I be made aware of?
I plan to use arch linux with XFCE like I do on my desktop.

Yeah buying a new thinkpads not the best idea.
If your going to by one get a used one, the options on ebay in the US and UK are great.

i did have a t400 prior which was alright but it didn't suit my requirements anymore so it's been laying dormant and on to of that i accidentally threw a glass of soda over it last summer so it ded
right now i have a t580 and it has a number of quirks that are just straight up unacceptable, sometimes the fucker gives me smol shocks through the earplugs i have plugged in and the display is just abysmal in terms of colour quality

My dad still has a X60 issued to him by his work (is super fucking slow on windows 10 enterpise)
I honestly want it as a backup main computer as my motherboards playing up and don't wanna fork out for a whole new build yet.
That and I want a computer to take with me when I go away.

ive had a t410 for like 5 years

and ive aquired an sl500 late last year

the vista era was truly the strongest era for laptop designs

iirc, 2011 was like the last golden year for thinkpad design with some 2012 and 2013 skus being okay at best. i'd still probably shy away from thinkpads altogether as the well built ones are too old for a lot of modern performance purposes, but i guess if you only need a laptop for schoolwork and browsing they're still viable

I'd agree on the idea that the vista era was the best for laptops.
The X60 and X61 are some of the best laptops of all time

my laptop has seen better days, but i will stick with it as new laptops are utter garbages
